Lent 2024

St. Joseph  & St. Patrick Parishes Lent 2024 Schedule

Dear Friends,

We are entering into the Holy Season of Lent in preparation for the celebration for the Lord’s Paschal Mystery, His Passion, Death, and Resurrection at Easter.  I hope that you and your family will find this page useful.  On it you will find many opportunities for your spiritual growth - evening Mass, Stations of the Cross, confession schedules, special celebrations and of course KC. Fish Fries.

We have before us seven weeks to turn away from sin and to be faithful to the Gospel.  By means of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving we witness the Lord’s call to holiness.  The church gives us the following Lenten regulations: all Catholics between the ages of 14-59 are required to observe the guidelines of fasting on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.  We are encouraged to keep the fast of Good Friday up to the beginning of the Easter Vigil on Saturday at 8 p.m. Fasting means having only one full meal without meat to maintain one’s strength.  Two smaller, meatless and penitential meals are permitted according to one’s needs but  together they should not equal one full meal.  Eating solid foods between meals is not permitted.  Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat for those 14 years and older.

Let us pray that through the observance of Lent not only may our hearts be renewed, but our families and our parish as well.

In Christ’s peace,

Father Dooley
